When in Tuscany, an ideal way to spend a day is to explore some of the region’s excellent wineries Chianti; while also discovering some of the beautiful Tuscan countryside that has made the area so popular with visitors to Italy.

From the Port of Livorno we have devised this original shore excursion that combines wine, food and glorious Tuscan landscapes.

First Winery

It takes an hour and 20 minutes to drive from the port to our first prestigious Chianti DOCG estate. A drive alongside vineyards and fields, with inspiring views, will bring you to Casa Emma (on https://www.casaemma.it/?lang=en) ; the wine is produced entirely from grapes grown in its 40-hectare vineyard by a family that has lived in this historic home since the early 19th century. There are various wine-tasting options.

Lunch in Trattoria

From here you will drive further into the heart of the Chianti region for an authentic Tuscan lunch on the terrace of a traditional trattoria (20 minutes drive) La Cantinetta di Rignana; from where you can admire the rolling hills of this renowned wine-producing region.(lunch is not included, menu and price on https://www.lacantinettadirignana.com/en/restaurant/ )

You decide for a second winery

After lunch we move back to Livorno port and you decide if wish to stop in a second winery. It is located in a stunning 16th century Medicean villa close to the village of Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo, it’s Villa Dianella ( https://www.villadianella.it/en/ ). The family-run winery, Conti Passerin D’Entreves, has been lovingly restored and a small museum about wine-making created in the historic cellars. You will be able to visit the cellars and, of course, sample the wines. From here it is just 50 minutes drive back to port.
Please note that winetastings and lunch are not included in the price of the excursion. The wineries described, are just a suggestion, will be included subject to availability at the time of booking. As a guideline, each winetasting session costs around € 30,00 per person.

Our private shore excursion / private excursion to Chianti wine region is designed to help you to experience the best-known and most significant sights, but we are happy to tailor-make your itinerary to suit your own tastes and interests (within the limits of the time available, of course!).
